Weekly Newsletter 3/3/25 - Week 24

Happy Sunday, parents and guardians! Here is our weekly newsletter for the week beginning March 3rd, 2025 (week 24 of instruction):

March Moral Focus: As we enter a new month, our moral focus virtue is changing to Encouragement. This month, we will focus on students using encouragement! The fifth grade definition of encouragement is to be there for others when they need motivation. This will be valuable as we enter interim 3 and MSTEP.

March Birthday Shout-Outs!!: Happy March birthday to Kenneth Smith (March 21st)! Happy Birthday!! We will be celebrating Kenneth's birthday on Friday, March 28th. If you would like to send in treats for the birthday celebration, please feel free to do so on this date.

Tutoring: Tutoring continues this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tutoring runs from 3:30-4:30 pm. Dismissal is at 4:30 pm sharp.

Student Parent Teacher Conferences (SPTCs): SPTCs will be the week of March 10th. It is mandatory that I meet will ALL parents/guardians. It is required that both student and parent attend these meetings. Report cards will be handed out at conferences. They will not be sent home with students. I posted a sign-up link for the conferences in a SchoolConnect. Please be sure you sign up for a time that both you AND your child can attend. If a phone meeting is necessary, please include/message me a phone number that you would like to be reached at. Thank you for your time and cooperation. I look forward to meeting with you all!

March is Reading Month: March is reading month and to celebrate it, we will have different activities and theme days for students. Please see the School Connect post that was sent with the March calendar. The themes for this week are as follows:
Monday- D.E.A.R begins!
Tuesday- Teacher's Favorite Book day
Wednesday- Buddy Reading day
Thursday- Get Wrapped Up in a Book day (Wear a Scarf!)
Friday- Make a Bookmark day

All students are welcome to participate, free of charge. Please encourage your child to lean in to reading this month!

Interim 3: Interim 3 begins next week. Please ensure that your child is getting a good night's rest and has breakfast in the mornings. As a reminder, breakfast is served at Laurus to ALL STUDENTS beginning at 7:35 am. It is important that students are set up for success as we enter our interims.

Cookie Fundraiser: Cookie Dough Fundraiser forms went home on Friday. If you are interested in your child participating, please refer to the information provided in the fundraiser packet.

Homework Packets: Due to the temporary change in our schedule and lessons, I will not be sending homework packets home this week. Homework packets may resume next week. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this new schedule and curriculum for MSTEP prep. New spelling words will still be sent home on Monday.

Curriculum: This week we will be implementing our MSTEP Mondays, where our focus is entirely on MSTEP prep. This focus will be in ELA and math. Instruction begins promptly at 8:10 am, so please be sure students arrive on time so they do not miss important instructional material. It is essential, especially as we enter this final push before testing, that students arrive on time and are present ALL DAY to ensure their success. In ELA, students will work on understanding the main idea of a text and finding evidence to support it. They will also begin working on an opinion writing piece. There will be a spelling test on Monday and a comp and grammar quiz on FRIDAY. Our weekly assessments will switch to Fridays as we implement our new schedule. Please be advised. In math, students will work on dividing fractions by whole numbers as well as division story problems. There will be an End of Unit Assessment on Friday. We will review on Thursday for the assessment. For science and social studies, we will review for Interim 3.
